Police conduct night domination exercise in Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar districts

In preparation for the upcoming Independence Day (I-Day) celebrations, the Jalandhar range police carried out an extensive night domination exercise on Saturday night, with an objective of reviewing security arrangements, deterring unlawful activities and reassuring the public of a safe environment.

The exercise was personally supervised by Jalandhar range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Naveen Singla, who was joined by Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora, Jalandhar (Rural) SSP Harvinder Singh Virk and Hoshiarpur SSP Sandeep Malik.

85 rounded up for inquiry

1— During the operation, the police checked 742 persons

The operation spanned multiple districts and was conducted in line with standard policing protocols, ensuring that all checks and detentions adhered to legal procedures while taking into account citizens’ rights.

In all, 722 police personnel participated in the operation, including three SSPs, 30 gazetted officers, 45 Station House Officers, 212 non-gazetted officers and 432 enrolled police officers. Security measures included 72 checkpoints (nakas) and 95 patrolling units strategically deployed to monitor key areas and vulnerable locations.

During the operation, the police checked 742 persons, 85 of whom were rounded up for further inquiry based on reasonable suspicion and available evidence. The police checked 977 vehicles, impounded four for violations and issued 98 traffic challans in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act. Besides, 53 vital and vulnerable installation points were inspected to assess security readiness.

DIG Singla said the exercise demonstrated the police force’s commitment to ensure proactive security measures, adding that such coordinated operations were critical in preventing untoward incidents and maintaining public trust. He commended the cooperation of all district police units and urged citizens to extend their support by reporting any suspicious activities.

The police emphasised that all enforcement actions were carried out with due regard to legal safeguards and that the primary focus remained on ensuring a secure and peaceful environment for Independence Day celebrations.
