Thane Varsha Marathon Participant From Vasant Vihar Dies After Coming Back Home; Reason Remains Unknown

Thane: The case of a competitor who took part in the Thane Municipal Corporation's marathon event dying after arriving home has emerged. His name is Bene Devasi, and he resides in the Vasant Vihar locality of Thane. He had taken part in numerous marathon events previously. The precise reason for his death remained unknown. The unexpected passing of Bene, who typically preserved good health, is provoking expressions of sorrow. He took part in the marathon event alongside his wife.

The Thane Municipal Corporation and the Thane District Amateur Athletics Association jointly organised the 31st annual marathon competition on Sunday. Thousands of contestants took part in this contest. The contest commenced close to the Thane Municipal Corporation's base in Pachpakhadi.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the competition. Subsequently, the contests began in stages from the square in front of the city hall, organised into a total of 12 groups.

This competition, paused for the past five years because of COVID-19, saw participation from both young and old this year. Noticing the excitement of the runners taking part, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ran in the marathon himself after starting it. He ran alongside the participants for a while and passed away.

Bene, who lives in the Vasant Vihar area, took part in this competition alongside his wife. Following the 21-kilometre race, he returned home. However, he fell down shortly after getting back home. He was subsequently pronounced dead. Bene consistently took part in different marathon events. He also usually maintained good health. Those nearest to him expressed their shock at his unexpected passing.
