Adopt swadeshi, save local markets: Protesters
A protest under the banner of the Swadeshi Jagran Manch was held here on Monday, voicing opposition to foreign e-commerce companies and demanding protection for local businesses. The event drew enthusiastic participation from representatives of Mandi, Kotli, Sundernagar, Nerchowk, Gohar, Padhar, Panarsa, Ratti, Rewalsar, Jogindernagar, Darang and surrounding areas.
The protest was led by Anupama Singh, regional head of Swadeshi Shodh Sansthan Vimarsh and a senior leader of the Swadeshi Jagran Manch. Prominent attendees included Jaswant Yadav, Sushma, Priyanka and Virender Bhatt, among others.
Speakers warned of the adverse impact of multinational giants like Walmart, Flipkart and Amazon on small shopkeepers and local economies. They alleged that such companies lure customers with low prices initially, corner the market and later dictate terms — undermining livelihoods and reducing local employment opportunities.
The gathering ended with a pledge to intensify the movement. “A state-level convention is planned next, followed by a nationwide campaign starting in September. Our core message — Adopt swadeshi, save local markets — will reach every corner of India, uniting traders, farmers and consumers in this cause,” said Anupama Singh.
