30 escape unhurt as boulder hits moving bus in Chamba
Around 30 passengers had a narrow escape on Tuesday morning when a boulder crashed onto a moving private bus on the Chanju-Devikothi road in Churah subdivision.
The bus, travelling from Chanju to Devikothi, was struck on the roof by a falling rock triggered by heavy rains. The impact tore through the roof and landed in the empty space behind the driver’s cabin. The driver stopped the vehicle immediately, preventing injuries. Passengers were later shifted to other vehicles. The area is prone to landslides during the monsoon.
Road cave-in disrupts supplies
In another weather-related incident, a 20-m stretch of the Pathankot-Chamba-Bharmour National Highway (NH-154A) (pic) collapsed near Dunera on the Himachal-Punjab border, halting traffic and disrupting essential supplies.
The cave-in caused long traffic snarls, stranding pilgrims headed for the annual Manimahesh yatra. By evening, the route was opened to light vehicles. Officials said 15 roads remained closed across Chamba district due to heavy rainfall and landslides.
