India’s first hydrogen train looks like this from inside, Railway Minister himself showed the first glimpse of India’s ‘future’!
India First Hydrogen Train: First glimpse of India’s first hydrogen train! Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared the video. Know what this ‘train of the future’ looks like and how it will change your travel.
India First Hydrogen Train: Smoke-belching diesel engines and a web of electric wires… all these are going to be old things soon. Indian Railways has taken a leap towards the future, which every Indian was dreaming of. Now the day is not far when trains running on hydrogen, a fuel made from water, will be seen running on the tracks of India. Bringing this big dream closer to reality, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given a very good news.
The Railway Minister has shared a video about this on the social media platform ‘X’. According to the video, the name of this train can be NaMo Green Rail. However, no official announcement has been made about it.
What is this hydrogen train and why is it so special?
This train generates electricity by mixing hydrogen and oxygen. In this process, only water comes out instead of smoke. Its biggest advantage is that it is a ‘zero emission’ train i.e. zero pollution. It does not emit any harmful gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, which are emitted from diesel engines today. The Railway Minister proudly told that this 1,200 horsepower train and its technology have been developed completely in India. It is a great example of ‘self-reliant India’.
What did the Railway Minister say?
Ashwini Vaishnav had earlier told in July that in his post, “The first hydrogen-powered coach (driving power car) was successfully tested at ICF, Chennai. India is developing a 1,200 HP hydrogen train. This will make India one of the leading countries in hydrogen-powered train technology.”
How does this ‘train of the future’ look from inside?
The first glimpse of this driving power car is seen in the video shared by the Railway Minister. The exterior and interior design of the coach is very modern and attractive, which reminds of Vande Bharat. The cabin is completely digital and computerized, with large screens installed. It looks like the cockpit of an airplane.
Although only the driving coach is shown in the video, it is certain that when this complete train is made, its passenger coaches will also be as comfortable and equipped with all modern facilities as Vande Bharat.
Why is it a ‘game changer’ for India?
There are many big benefits hidden behind this one success, which can change the picture of the country
1. ‘Protector’ of the environment
India is one of the countries in the world that is most affected by climate change. At such a time, making the largest means of transport, i.e. railways, pollution free is a revolutionary step. This will greatly help India in achieving the target of ‘net zero’ emissions by 2070.
2. India joins the league of world giants
Till now only a few selected and developed countries like Germany, France, Sweden and China were working on hydrogen train technology. Germany has even run the world’s first hydrogen train. Now with this successful test, India has also joined this elite club with pride.
3. Cheap and quiet journey
Hydrogen fuel technology may be expensive right now, but in the long run, its operation is expected to be cheaper than diesel engines. Also, these trains do not make noise like diesel engines, which will give passengers a quiet and comfortable travel experience.
4. Self-reliance in energy
India imports more than 85% of its crude oil needs, which costs billions of dollars every year. Shifting to domestic and clean energy like hydrogen will reduce our dependence on oil imports and save the country’s valuable foreign exchange reserves.
