Truck driver nabbed with 12 kg poppy husk

A truck driver has been arrested with poppy husk.

The accused was identified as Vikram, alias Vicky (36), a resident of Nangal Bhaga village in Kalka.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, led by in-charge Praveen Kumar, intercepted the Vikram’s truck near the Sukhomajri bypass in Surajpur. A white bag hidden under a blanket behind the driver’s seat was found to be containing 12.27 kg of poppy husk.

The police said the accused allegedly brought the contraband from Madhya Pradesh for sale in Panchkula and Himachal Pradesh.

DCP Srishti Gupta said the interrogation would focus on identifying the recipients and main suppliers.

The accused was produced in court, which remanded him in custody for six days to help cops trace the entire supply chain.
