DC reviews Smart City projects in Karnal

The DC first visited the newly constructed old-age home in Sector 32, built at a cost of over Rs 10.10 crore. The facility includes 43 rooms, eight dormitories, and accommodation for 128 residents. He instructed the department concerned to hand over the building to the Social Welfare Department at the earliest and ensure that eligible beneficiaries avail its facilities.
Inspecting the under-construction community centre in Sector 32, Singh expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work and warned that delays would attract penalties.
He also visited Sector 33, where the community centre, badminton hall, volleyball court, and digital library were nearing completion. Built at a cost of over Rs 13.15 crore, the complex includes a 500-seat hall, audio-visual room, conference hall, cafeteria, and digital library. The DC directed officials to complete the finishing work quickly so that the public could start using the facilities.
Singh then reviewed the progress of the Rs 128-crore elevated bridges project, scheduled for completion by July 2026 and urged for its speedy completion. He also inspected the Rs 31-crore commercial complex under construction at the old grain market by the MC, which is currently 50 per cent complete. The facility will feature two basement parking levels, 34 shops each on the ground and first floors, 10 food courts, two restaurants on the second floor and a gaming zone on the third floor.
The DC stressed regular inspections by officials and instructed them to ensure minimal inconvenience to the public during construction.
