Flight Ban: Takeoff and landing of these flights from Delhi airport will be restricted, check date and scheduled before traveling

On August 15, the take-off and landing of non-scheduled and chartered flights from Delhi Airport will be restricted from 6 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 7 pm. This rule has been implemented for security reasons. Regular flights, military, medical and government emergency flights will be exempted.

Flight Ban: On Independence Day, non-scheduled flights from Delhi Airport will be banned. On August 15, from 6 am to 10 am and then from 4 pm to 7 pm, such flights will neither be allowed to take off nor land. This restriction will apply to both chartered planes and special flights of scheduled airlines.

However, there will be no impact on regular passenger flights. This information has been given in a notice issued by Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) under the Airport Authority of India.

Exemption to army and medical flights

Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF) and army helicopters have been exempted from this restriction. Along with this, government aircraft carrying the Governor or Chief Minister, emergency medical service and emergency mission flights will also be able to fly.

Delhi Airport is the busiest airport in the country

This rule will apply to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which is the busiest airport in India. There are about 1,300 flights (takeoff and landing) here every day.

Tips for regular passengers

  • Check your flight information in advance: There will be a ban on non-scheduled flights on August 15, but your regular scheduled flight will run normally. Before traveling, do check your flight status on the airline’s website or mobile app.
  • Reach the airport early: Security is tight on Independence Day and traffic may also increase. So reach the airport at least 3 hours in advance and complete check-in and security check comfortably.
  • An unexpected delay may occur, be prepared: Flights may be delayed due to crowds and strict security checks. Keep some extra time in your travel plan so that you can remain stress-free.
  • Avoid non-scheduled flights: If your journey involves a chartered or special flight, confirm the status with its operator as restrictions are imposed on these flights.
  • Follow security instructions: Follow the security rules imposed at the airport completely. Inform the concerned authorities as soon as you see any suspicious object or activity.
