Delhi Rains: Man In Inflatable Boat Cruises Through Waterlogged Street In GK-1; Video Goes Viral

New Delhi: Heavy rain swept across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), including Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, early Thursday (August 14), bringing much-needed relief from the lingering summer heat but also throwing morning traffic into disarray.

However, several low-lying areas were left submerged, and a viral clip of a man navigating a flooded Delhi street in an inflatable boat quickly captured the internet's attention.

Rain Disrupts Morning Commute

The downpour began in the early hours, drenching neighbourhoods such as Lajpat Nagar, RK Puram, Lodhi Road, and the Delhi–Haryana border. Outer Ring Road near Subroto Park saw significant waterlogging, slowing traffic to a crawl. In Gurugram, Basai Road faced similar scenes, with commuters wading through ankle-deep water.

Moderate rain was also reported from India Gate, Kartavya Path, Punjabi Bagh, Vasant Vihar, and parts of Noida. Overcast skies hung low over the city, keeping temperatures in check even as humidity levels started to climb.

Heavier Showers Expected

Forecast data from AQI.in suggests the wet spell will intensify from August 14 to 17. Thursday carries an 84% chance of moderate rain, with precipitation estimated at 8.32 mm. The heaviest bursts are expected on August 15 (15.58 mm) and August 16 (10.34 mm), followed by sticky humidity peaking at 80% on August 17. Daytime highs are likely to range between 26°C and 36.2°C, with lows around 26°C.

Authorities have urged commuters to brace for delays, especially along ceremonial routes ahead of Independence Day, warning that waterlogging in vulnerable pockets could worsen during heavier spells.

While rain is forecast to persist through August 17, conditions may ease slightly from August 18, with August 19 tipped as the most comfortable day of the week, bringing lighter showers and improved traffic flow.
