Palghar News: 39-Year-Old Voter Registered Six Times, Triggering Investigation, District Collector Requests Report
Palghar: Amid tension in centre over Leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi over 'vote chori' allegations, another case of multiple voting under single name has come forward from Palghar. A 39-year-old voter was discovered listed six times on the electoral roll in Maharashtra's Palghar district, leading collector Indu Jakhar to request an investigation. The name was found five times in one polling booth and once in a different booth within the same assembly constituency.
The replication, pointed out by activists on social media, prompted the state chief electoral officer to inform the collector. The office of the CEO called a special meeting and requested comprehensive details regarding the steps taken to address the problem. "A report has been requested as soon as possible," stated a high-ranking official from the CEO's office.

Jakhar informed TOI that the effort to eliminate the duplicate entries was in progress. Deputy election officer Tejas Chavan clarified the situation that resulted in the duplication. In the Nalasopara area of the same district, the voter submitted form No. 6 online in January 2024 to register her name. "Thinking that the EPIC would be released right after handing in the form, she accidentally submitted it six times," he stated.
The district administration released a statement, stating, "The district election officer and district collector of Palghar have instructed all agencies to enforce rigorous inspections and remove duplicate entries in the forthcoming voter list revision process."
Social media activists stated that the situation "arises in light of Rahul Gandhi's claims" and "raises worries regarding the reliability of electoral lists" before local body elections in Maharashtra.
