WhatsApp has rolled out new features to make group calls easier to plan and more interactive. Users can now schedule calls directly from the Calls tab by tapping the ‘+’ button, selecting Schedule call, and adding participants.
The call can also be linked to a calendar, with everyone receiving a reminder before it starts.
This is the first time WhatsApp has offered built-in scheduling, bringing it closer to workplace tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams while keeping its familiar, simple style.
Smoother, more interactive calls
The update also introduces a Raise Hand button, letting participants signal when they want to speak instead of interrupting. Live emoji reactions — such as a thumbs up, heart, or laugh—can now pop up while someone is talking, recreating the natural cues we rely on in real conversations.
Hosts will also get notifications when someone joins through a link, making it easier to track who is in the call.
WhatsApp explained the aim clearly in its official blog post.
These updates are meant to make calls "more interactive, inclusive and easier to manage."
Built for work and everyday life
For years, WhatsApp has been the go-to app for casual conversations and family catch-ups. With scheduling and Raise Hand, it is now edging into the territory of professional tools, while reactions keep things light and personal.
For most users, the change means fewer missed calls and smoother group chats. For teams, it could make WhatsApp a surprisingly effective option for quick, informal meetings.
The new features are rolling out globally in phases and will reach all users over the coming weeks.
