If not Chennai, then where will it rain in Tamil Nadu today? What IMD forecast tells about Coimbatore, Theni weather

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that "Heavy to very heavy rain" is likely to occur at isolated places over the Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore districts on Friday, August 16. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall was reported in certain parts of Chennai, where the sky has remained cloudy since morning.
The forecast from the RMC also warned that thunderstorms and lightning may hit one or two places in Puducherry and Karaikal. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday, August 18. Due to the change in the speed of the westerly wind, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur in a few places in north Tamil Nadu, a few places in south Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas today. Strong surface winds reaching a speed of 40 to 50 kmph are likely at a few places, reports said.
Some areas of Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts can also expect moderate rainfall in the evening, local media reports said. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea as cyclonic storms are likely to prevail over the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal till August 20, Dinamani said in a report. Here are five weather updates for Tamil Nadu as of Saturday afternoon:
- Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over North Tamil Nadu and at isolated places over South Tamil Nadu.
- Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over the Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore district.
- Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Theni district. Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari may also get some rainfall in the coming hours.
- Squally weather with a wind speed of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the South Tamil Nadu coast, off the North Tamil Nadu coast, and over the Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area.
- "The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is likely to occur in some areas," said the IMD nowcast at 14:30 on Saturay. The sky will remain partly cloudy tomorrow. Light/moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at a few places in Chennai. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 33-34°C and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26-27°C.
