Keylong hosts Himachal’s first zero-waste tribal fair
Himachal’s first ever zero-waste tribal fair is being celebrated with traditional fervour at Keylong in tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti. The three-day festival, which began on August 14, was virtually inaugurated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
In a major boost to infrastructure and sustainable development in the Lahaul valley, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu virtually laid the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 36 crore. The event was part of a broader initiative to enhance agriculture, horticulture, tourism and connectivity in the remote tribal region.
Urban and Rural Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani attended the ceremony as the chief guest at the district headquarters and unveiled the project plaques to formally inaugurate the programmes. These projects are expected to infuse new energy into the local economy, providing long-term benefits to the people of Lahaul. While addressing the gathering, he stated that the new projects would significantly strengthen the region’s social and economic structure and provide new opportunities for the local population.
Chief Minister Sukhu extended his congratulations to the district administration for successfully organising the state’s first zero-waste and eco-friendly tribal fair. He emphasised that the new initiatives will accelerate the overall growth of Lahaul and transform it into a prominent center for tourism and sustainable agriculture.
During the event, Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana briefed the Chief Minister on the recent cloudburst incidents and requested assistance for relief and rehabilitation. CM Sukhu assured full support and necessary help from the state government. Lahaul Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana was also present during the event.
