Bangladesh Army Chief issues Big statement, says Grand Janmashtami rally will now…, Wakar Uz Zaman now plans to…
New Delhi: In a major statement, Bangladesh Army Chief General Wakar Uz Zaman has said that the country belongs to people of all religions and communities. During his address to the Hindu devotees gathered at the Dhakeshwari Temple at the inauguration of the Janmashtami rally, General Wakar Uz Zaman said that all citizens living in Bangladesh are equal, regardless of their religion or region. Extending his greetings on Janmashtami, he urged everyone to celebrate the festival with joy and harmony.
It is important to note that the statement comes at a time when minorities are facing massive atrocities in Bangladesh. Since Yunus took charge of the interim government in August last year, minority Hindus and temples have increasingly been targeted in Bangladesh. Against this backdrop, the Army Chief, through his speech, sent out a strong message to extremist elements.
People of all religions should live together: General Zaman
During his address, General Zaman thanked the temple committee for inviting him to the Janmashtami celebrations. “Bangladesh is a land of harmony, where Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, hill communities, and Bengalis have been living together peacefully for centuries. On this sacred occasion of Janmashtami, our pledge should be to preserve this brotherhood forever.”
Zaman emphasized, “Bangladesh belongs to everyone; there will be no division here. There can be no discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, or creed. We are all citizens of this land, and we all have equal rights to it. Together, we aspire for a bright future.”
Janmashtami Rally Will Be Held Every Year:
The Army Chief said that the Janmashtami procession used to be a major annual tradition in Dhaka during the 19th and 20th centuries, but it had been discontinued in recent times. He expressed full confidence that the Janmashtami rally will now be held every year. He assured that whatever support is required from them will definitely be provided.
