Explainer: After crop loss, farmers asked to upload claims on E-Kshatipurti portal

Many parts of the state have witnessed extensive damage to standing kharif crops, including cotton and bajra, due to waterlogging caused by heavy and persistent rain during the monsoon season. As a result, distressed farmers, especially those without crop insurance, are now looking at the state government for financial assistance.

Providing a measure of relief, the state government has opened its E-Kshatipurti portal, allowing affected farmers to upload details of crop loss in order to receive compensation.

For how many districts has the E-Kshatipurti portal been opened?

The E-Kshatipurti portal has been opened for farmers in four districts of the state — Rohtak, Charkhi Dadri, Palwal and Hisar. The farmers of affected villages in the district have been asked to upload crop losses on the portal by August 31.

Farmers of how many villages of Rohtak district will be able to upload their crop losses?

In Rohtak district, farmers from 14 villages under Meham tehsil and Lakhan Majra sub-tehsil will be able to upload their losses on the portal. These villages include Meham, Farmana Khas, Samain, Bedwa, Behlba, Sisar Khas, Shekhpur Titri, Kheri Meham, Bhaini Bheron, Bhaini Surjan, Bhaini Maharajpur, Madina Korsan, Bharan, and Bhaini Chanderpal.

On what basis has the government opened the portal?

The state government has opened the portal after receiving field-level damage assessment and recommendation from the respective district administrations. The assessment highlighted the extensive damage caused to kharif crops due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging during the monsoon season.

What is E-Kshatipurti portal? How does it work?

The E-Kshatipurti portal is an online platform created by the state government to help farmers report crop losses due to natural calamities. Affected farmers can log on to the portal and upload details of their damaged crops in order to seek financial compensation. The claims received thus are later verified by local officials of the Revenue Department for providing compensation as per government policy.

What is farm outfit’s demand regarding crop losses?

The All India Kisan Sabha has demanded that the state government include more villages in Rohtak in the compensation scheme. Specifically, they have asked for the inclusion of Chuliyana, Kultana, and Pakasma villages, which they claim have also suffered serious crop damage due to prolonged waterlogging, but have not been included in the official list of affected areas.
