Janhvi Kapoor responds to trolls who mocked her for chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ during a Janmashtami event

Janhvi Kapoor has taken to social media to clarify why she chanted ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai!’ during a Janmashtami festival. Held on Saturday at Mumbai’s Ghatkopar, many trolled the Bollywood actress for shouting the freedom slogan at the Dahi Handi event, claiming she may have gotten mixed up with Independence Day.

The actress cleared up the confusion surrounding the viral clip, sharing the complete video and the context of what occurred before shouting the slogan. On her Instagram stories, she wrote, “Just for context, full video lol. Unke bolne ke baad nahi bolti toh problem, aur bolo toh bhi video ko kaat ke meme material (If I hadn’t said it after him, it would’ve been a problem, but now that I have, the video’s been cut and turned into meme material.)"
Continuing, she penned, “Waise sirf Janmashtami ke din nahi, roz bolungi ‘Bharat Mata ki Jaiiiiii!’ (Not just on Janmashtami, I’ll say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' every single day.)”
Amidst the discussion, netizens were quick to point fingers at the Dhadak actress, trolling her for the gesture.
Others came to the 28-year-old’s defence.
Kapoor is currently gearing up for the release of her film Param Sundari. Helmed by Tushar Jalota, it will explore the love story of Param, a charming man from North India, who falls for Sundari, a lively young woman from Kerala.
Hitting the screens on August 29, the filmmakers are facing heavy backlash for casting a North Indian actress for a South Indian role and for their stereotypical portrayal of Kerala.
