Dy CM visits cloudburst affected areas in Kathua, assures people of full govt support

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary visited cloudburst and landslide-hit villages in Kathua district on Monday and assured the victims of full government support for their relief and rehabilitation.

Seven members of four families, including five children, were killed and 15 were injured in two separate incidents of cloudburst and landslide in Jodh Ghati village of Rajbagh and Bagra village of Janglote in the early hours of Sunday.

Accompanied by the National Conference’s Jammu unit president Rattan Lal Gupta, the deputy chief minister took stock of the situation and interacted with families currently housed in relief camps.

During his visit, Choudhary issued necessary directives to district administration officials to ensure timely and adequate assistance to the affected families. He reiterated that the UT government is committed to ensuring proper rehabilitation and long-term support for all those impacted by the natural disaster.

Following the visit to the camps, the Deputy CM also went to Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua, to meet the seven injured persons, who are currently undergoing treatment. He directed the hospital authorities to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.

He later visited Military Hospital, Pathankot, where other injured persons have been admitted.

Meanwhile, J&K BJP president Sat Sharma also led a team of senior party leaders to Kathua, Jasrota and Hiranagar Assembly constituencies, where incessant rains have caused damage to life and property. The visit was aimed at assessing the ground realities, expressing solidarity with the affected families, and ensuring that immediate relief and long-term assistance reaches the victims.

Sharma interacted with local residents and listened patiently to their grievances. He assured the victims that the BJP stands firmly with them in this hour of crisis and every possible help would be mobilised to bring relief and rehabilitation.
