Divisional Level Inter-Distt Handball Tourney kicks off

UDHAMPUR, Aug 18: Department of Youth Services and Sports, Udhampur, kick-started the Divisional Level Inter-District Handball Tournament for Boys under 14 and under 17 years at the historic Mini Stadium, Udhampur.
The tournament drew an enthusiastic response with around 123 athletes from five districts of Jammu Division taking part, showcasing youthful energy, discipline and competitive spirit.
The event was inaugurated by Deep Kumar, Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO) Udhampur, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, accompanied by Jyoti Rani, ZPEO. In his address, Deep Kumar advised the young sportspersons to stay away from substance abuse, echoing the vision of “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and underlining the role of sports in channelizing youth energy positively.
The Selection Committee, comprising Surinder Singh, Sourabh Sharma, Jyoti Sharma and Roshni Sharma of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, has been entrusted with officiating the tournament proceedings. The activity section, under the supervision of the department’s staff, coordinated the day’s programme, while the vote of thanks was presented by the in-charge Activity Section.
On the opening day, District Poonch defeated District Udhampur by 9-2 in the under-14 category, while District Jammu overpowered District Rajouri with the same scoreline. In the under-17 category, District Rajouri dominated District Kishtwar with a convincing 13-2 victory.
