MSMEs are the driving force behind India’s economic rise: Delhi Speaker
Calling micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) the “backbone of the Indian economy,” Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta highlighted the sector’s vital role in India’s growth. Currently accounting for nearly 45 per cent of India’s exports, Gupta said MSMEs have the potential to increase their contribution to 60-70 per cent through supportive policies, innovation and international partnerships. Such progress, he added, would position India on the path to becoming an economic superpower.
The summit, organised by the Star International MSME Forum, was organised under the theme “Empowering MSMEs, Connecting Globally.” Discussions centred on AI and digital adoption in MSMEs, export strategies, women and youth entrepreneurship and enhancing international competitiveness.
Gupta described the summit as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Local to Global” vision, calling it “not just a slogan but the manifesto of India’s economic revolution.” With trade representatives from over 20 countries — including the US, UK, Russia and UAE — the event offered Indian entrepreneurs valuable opportunities to explore new markets, adopt cutting-edge technologies and expand their global footprint.
Emphasising the sector’s contribution to India’s growth, the Speaker said, “The strength of India does not rest only in its large industries, but in the countless small dreams that millions of MSME entrepreneurs are fulfilling every day. These small dreams together are guiding India towards becoming a developed nation.” He urged entrepreneurs to move beyond “Make in India” to “Made for the World,” inspired by Modi’s vision, stressing the need for innovation, quality improvement and integration into global supply chains.
Addressing women and youth, Gupta urged them to seize emerging opportunities created by government initiatives and international collaborations, saying their empowerment would strengthen India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. In conclusion, he called on all stakeholders to unite in support of MSMEs, asserting by harnessing entrepreneurial spirit, technology and cultural strengths, India could transform into a self-reliant and globally dynamic economy, earning its rightful place as a ‘Vishwaguru’ on the world stage.
