Govinda rejected this film with Aishwarya Rai, Anil Kapoor grabbed the role, movie became blockbuster, earned Rs…, became first Indian film to…
In late 80s and 90s, Govinda made his Bollywood debut, and later transformed into one of the most prominent movie stars of Hindi cinema. Throughout 90s, he churned out several box office hits including Aankhen, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Dulhe Raja, Haseena Maan Jayegi & Sajan Chale Sasural among others. However, the actor had turned out major projects that went on to become legendary in Indian cinema.
One of them was the musical romantic drama, Taal, released in 1999. Helmed by Subhash Ghai, the film starred Aishwarya Rai, Akshaye Khanna, and Anil Kapoor in lead roles, while Amrish Puri and Alok Nath in supporting roles.
But do you know Anil Kapoor’s supporting character in Taal was first offered to Govinda? Yes you heard that right! According to a report by Times of India, Govinda turned down the offer due to concerns about his repute and suitability for the role. In a conversation with Film Companion, Govinda explained the reason behind his refusal, saying, “When I had turned down Devdas, I also refused Taal at the same time. Both the characters went on to become iconic hits, but I was on top of my game at that point, and I didn’t know if people would accept me in a character role or not.”
Well, not just Govinda but Aamir Khan too was offered Anil Kapoor’s part, but he declined due to unknown reasons.
