Railways New Rule: Indian Railways has implemented the ‘airplane’ rule, passengers may have to pay a hefty fine

Indian Railways has implemented a new rule under which passengers will have to check the weight and size of their luggage. If the luggage is found to be more than the prescribed limit, then an additional charge will have to be paid. 70 kg luggage in AC First class, 50 kg in AC Two Sleeper and 40 kg in AC Three, while up to 35 kg luggage in General will be free.

Now railway passengers will have to be careful about luggage as well. On the lines of air travel, the railways are also going to implement a new system of checking passengers’ luggage. That is, your luggage will be weighed before boarding at the station and if it is more than the prescribed limit, you will have to pay an additional fee.

This system is planned to be implemented in the current financial year. Under this, electronic weighing machines are being installed at the entry and exit gates of major stations of the division including Prayagraj Junction, Kanpur Central, Mirzapur, Aligarh, Tundla.

The weight of every passenger’s bag and box will be measured with these machines. The railways have fixed the category-wise luggage limit. 70 kg in AC First Class, 50 kg in AC Two, 40 kg in Sleeper and AC Three, while only 35 kg of luggage will be allowed in General.

If passengers carry more luggage than this limit and have not booked in advance, a fine of up to six times can be charged. Senior DCM Himanshu Shukla said that this step is being taken for the convenience of passengers and to control heavy luggage in trains.

This system will not only check the weight but also the size. That is, if the bag is light but occupies more space, then also an additional charge may have to be paid.
