Phagwara: The police have arrested a man after recovering heroin from his possession during a routine patrol. The incident occurred on August 18, when a police team spotted a young man. On noticing the police, he allegedly attempted to flee in panic. The police quickly apprehended him, and upon questioning, he identified himself as Manjit Kumar of Sunra Rajputan, Phagwara. A search led to the recovery of eight gram of heroin wrapped in a polythene packet from his possession. A case was registered against the accused under the NDPS Act. oc

Man held for bike lifting

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a miscreant and booked another on the charge of lifing a motorcycle. The arrested accused has been identified as Ajay Partap Singh of Reharrwan village. Balkar Singh, a resident of Punia village, complained to the police that the accused and his accomplice took away his motorcycle at the point of sharp-edged weapons. A case under the BNS has been registered against the accused and his accomplice, Karanbir Singh of Reharrwan village. oc

Couple booked for visa fraud

Garhshankar: The police have registered a case against Sanjeev Kumar, and his wife Megha, residents of Dugri Road, Garhshankar, under Sections 318(4), 316(2), 61(2) of the BNS and the Immigration Act, 1983. The couple is accused of cheating Amandeep Singh of ?16.2 lakh by promising to send him abroad using a fake. Following an investigation by the DSP of the NRI Affairs Wing, Jalandhar-1, the complaint was found to be credible, leading to the registration of the case at Garhshankar police station. oc

Held for selling illicit liquor

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a villager on charges of brewing and selling illicit liquor. As many as 15 bottles of illicit liquor and 20 litres of lahan were recovered from the possession of the accused, identified as Uttam Singh, a resident of Beetalan village. A case was registered under Section 61/1/14 of the Punjab Excise Act against the accused. oc

Four ‘drug peddlers’ held

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested three ‘drug peddlers’ for selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 110 intoxicating tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Karamjit Singh, Ajuba, and Kamaljit, all residents of Samailpur village. The Nakodar police arrested a drug peddler Manpreet, alias Mani of Dhaliwal village. oc
