Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attacked during public event

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked by an unidentified person on Wednesday.
The attacker was apprehended by the police and was being questioned, ANI quoted the chief minister’s office as saying. The person’s motive behind the attack was not immediately clear.
The incident took place during the Bharatiya Janata Party leader’s Jan Sunvai outreach event.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi unit chief Virendraa Sachdeva told reporters that a man had approached Gupta, presented some paper and “suddenly held her hand while trying to pull her towards him”.
“During this, there was a little jostling...People nabbed him,” Sachdeva said. “Who is he, and all other details are being investigated by the police...”
The Delhi BJP chief said that Gupta was taken to hospital and was stable. “The slap or stone-throwing stories are fabricated...” he added.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi said that the attack on Gupta was “highly condemnable”.
“In a democracy, there is a place for disagreement and protest, but there is no place for violence,” the former chief minister said on social media. “It is hoped that the Delhi Police will take the strictest action against the culprits. It is hoped that the chief minister is completely safe.”
This is a developing story. It will be updated as new details are available.
