Anurag Kashyap slams Vijay Subramaniam for ‘Made-in-AI’ film on Hanuman: ‘You should be in the gutter’

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has joined the general public in slamming producer Vijay Subramaniam for his new film venture. On Tuesday, Subramaniam announced that a film on the Hindu deity Hanuman is in production and scheduled to hit the screens in April 2026. Titled Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal, the film is billed as the first-of-its-kind AI-driven film.
The use of artificial intelligence in the film has drawn some criticism, with Kashyap posting a lengthy note on Instagram, calling out Subramaniam, who also founded the Collective Artists Network. “So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators,” Kashyap quipped.
“Any actor or anyone who calls themselves artists and has a spine will be and should be either questioning him or leaving the agency since he has proved that he thinks you’re no match for his AI performance. This right here is the future for the spineless and cowardly so-called artists in the Hindi Film industry. Well done, Vijay Subramaniam. Shame is not enough for you. You should be in the gutter.”

Kashyap further took to the comments to voice his increasing frustration. Acknowledging that AI is slowly taking over every field, Kashyap clarified he takes issue with Subramaniam for choosing this path when representing an agency that fosters artists and filmmakers. “He represents the artists, the voice of artists, and he is producing an AI FILM, when the industry needs corrections, especially from the agencies, who are very responsible for costs going up, actors' career paths, writers, musicians, and filmmakers. Instead of creating more with them, he goes out and creates an AI band TRILOk. Him, I didn’t expect. That’s why the anger and the outburst, and it remains.”
He ends the comment by calling Subramaniam’s actions “unforgivable”.
