Trains between Pune and Mumbai cancelled amid heavy rains in Maharashtra; local services on Harbour Line resumed

A total of seven trains running from Pune to Mumbai have been cancelled by the Central Railway due to the ongoing heavy rains in the Ghat areas and the Konkan coast.

The Pune-Mumbai rail traffic will remain closed today. The IMD issued an orange alert for heavy rains in the region today.

Mumbai has been lashed by heavy rain for the past 3 days. Water has accumulated on the railway track, and visibility is low. That is why trains running from Pune railway station to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja Terminus have been cancelled. The trains going to Pune include Deccan Express, Indrayani Express, Dhule Express, and Jalna-Mumbai Jan Shatabdi.

Meanwhile, local services in Mumbai have been disrupted due to heavy rains and waterlogging. The Divisional Railway Manager, from Western railway announced that that multiple local trains have been cancelled for August 20.

 

The local services on the Central Railway Harbour Line, however, resumed at 3 am on Wednesday after being disrupted for more than 15 hours.

Suburban services between CSMT and Thane have been resumed, however, after just 8 hours of disruption. Local services on the arbour line of the central railway resumed after 15 hours. The trains on all the local lines are running with a delay of 20 to 30 minutes.

Over 200 m of rain fell in some suburbs of Mumbai in a 21 hour period, according to officials. Railway officials have asked passengers to travel only if necessary and to exercise caution.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a statement on Wednesday that the morning local train services on the Central, Western, and Harbour lines and bus services of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) are running smoothly.

Intense monsoon rainfall has also caused a rise in the water levels in the Godavari River. The administration has advised people living on the banks to remain alert. Water has been released from two dams of Igatpuri, including Gangapur.

Social media users also reported long power cuts in the city. One person said that there was 24 24-hour blackout in Vasai-Visar.
