Yuge Yugeen Museum’s 1st phase to open in 2027

The government is eyeing a 2027 deadline for the opening of the first segment of the world’s largest museum, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, which will come up in the sprawling Secretariat complex of Lutyens Delhi.

Culture Minister Gajendra Shekhawat told The Tribune that the museum would have eight verticals, including architecture, crafts and art of India and evolution of Indian architecture.

Shekhawat said the North Block that housed Home and Finance ministries would be available for work in the next three months but South block that housed the PMO would take another year for vacation.

“So on ground work for the museum will begin by year end. By 2027, we will have the first of the eight museum verticals ready. Once ready, we expect a daily footfall of 50,000 at the museum,” said the minister, adding that request for proposals for the work had been floated and tenders done.

He said India had collaborated with France on the museum because it had the top expertise in the conversion of office buildings to museums. The Louvre was originally the economic ministry building, he said.
