Delhi Assembly reviews security ahead of All India Speakers’ meet

A review meeting was held at the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Speaker Vijender Gupta to oversee preparations for the All India Speakers’ Conference, scheduled for 24-25 August. Senior officials from Delhi Police, including Commissioner S.B.K. Singh, Special CP (Traffic) K. Jagdishan, Special CP (Security) Jaspal Singh, DCP (Security) Manasvi Jain, and Joint CP (North & Central) Madhu Verma, along with senior Delhi Government officers, attended the meeting.

Delhi Police Commissioner Singh assured Speaker Gupta “foolproof security arrangements” would be in place during the event, leaving no room for lapses. He said all participants would be accorded the status of State Guests, with dedicated police protocol officers managing their movement from the airport to their accommodation at the Taj Hotel and then to the Assembly. “Every detail, from traffic management to venue safety, will be meticulously handled,” Singh said, pledging full police support.

Following the meeting, Speaker Gupta and senior officials conducted a joint inspection of the Assembly premises to review seating layouts, entry and exit arrangements and emergency protocols. The Delhi Assembly Secretariat has nearly finalised preparations to ensure seamless execution of

the conference.

This year’s Speakers’ Conference holds special significance as it marks 100 years since Vitthalbhai Jhaverbhai Patel became the first Indian elected President (Speaker) of the Central Legislative Assembly in 1925. His legacy of impartiality and commitment to parliamentary dignity would be honoured through a special exhibition and documentary during the event.

The two-day conference would be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and conclude with a valedictory address by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. It will also be attended by the Rajya Sabha Chairman, presiding officers of state legislatures, Deputy Chairpersons, Union Cabinet Ministers and other distinguished dignitaries.

Speaker Vijender Gupta said the Delhi Assembly is honoured to host this landmark conference, describing it as “a tribute to India’s democratic journey” and an opportunity to strengthen parliamentary traditions nationwide.
