Gurugram cops trained in scientific crash investigation

In Gurugram, road accident cases are now being investigated using scientific methods, as police officers undergo specialised training to improve the quality and accuracy of crash investigations. A training programme on ‘Scientific Crash Investigation’ was organised at the IRTE Centre, located at the Traffic Tower in Gurugram.

Around 50 investigating officers from various police stations across the city, including 10 zonal officers from the traffic police, participated in the programme. The training was conducted by ACP Highway Satyapal Yadav and Sahil Matto, assistant manager at Save Life Foundation.

During the session, the trainers emphasised the need for safety and precision while investigating road accidents. Officers were advised to use essential safety and investigative tools at the scene, particularly during night hours, such as reflective jackets, bar lights, cones, cameras, measuring tapes, spray paint or chalk, disposable masks and gloves.

“The investigating officer should thoroughly inspect the crash site, collect all relevant evidence and note factors such as the road condition, presence and visibility of signage, speed of the vehicles and their condition at the time of the crash,” said ACP Yadav. “They must also examine whether the driver had consumed any intoxicants, whether a helmet was worn in the case of two-wheeler riders and if car drivers followed traffic norms like wearing seat belts.”
