School Holiday: Schools and colleges are set to remain closed for an extended period as part of the festive calendar across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Students will receive nine consecutive holidays around Dussehra this year.
Earlier in August, institutions declared a three-day holiday on August 15, 16, and 17, which was widely celebrated by students. Now, as the festive season approaches, another round of holidays has been added to the academic calendar.
General schools and colleges will observe holidays from September 24 to October 2, totalling nine days. Christian minority institutions will have a shorter break of six days, from September 27 to October 2.
In Telangana, the holidays will be even longer. Schools and colleges across the state will remain closed from September 21 to October 3, as Dussehra is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in Telangana. Along with this, Urs-un-Nabi on September 5 has been declared a holiday.
The calendar also includes Christmas vacation for minority institutions from December 22 to 28 . In January 2026, Sankranti holidays will be observed from January 10 to 15 in minority schools, while general schools will remain closed from January 10 to 18.
These extended breaks are expected to give students the opportunity to participate in festivals, travel, and spend time with their families. The holidays also provide a pause in the academic routine, allowing space for cultural celebrations across states.
With back-to-back festivals in the coming months, the academic calendar has set the stage for one of the longest holiday seasons for schools and colleges in recent years.
