FASTag of ₹3000 will become useless, know these important rules before taking annual pass

Fastag Annual Pass Guideline: If you frequently travel to toll booths, then Fastag’s annual pass can prove to be a better option for you. But before buying it, it is important to understand these rules well, otherwise both your pass and money will be wasted.

Fastag is an electronic toll collection system, which is operated by the National Highways Authority of India. This tag has to be placed on the windscreen of the vehicle, so that the fee is automatically deducted from the bank account as soon as you reach the toll. In such a situation, due to the tag being linked to the bank, there is no need to stop at the toll booth and one gets rid of hours of lining.

From 15 August 2025, NHAI has launched a new FASTag annual pass. You can buy it from NHAI or Highway App by paying an amount of ₹ 3,000 in one go. This pass will be valid for one year or 200 trips. Along with this, this facility of annual pass is available only for private vehicles. The most important thing that you should know before buying this pass is that in which conditions this tag will not work?

How is the annual pass different from the regular Fastag system

Regular Fastag requires regular recharge and use. It is acceptable at all toll booths. Whereas the annual pass has to be recharged once. It is valid only on NHAI’s national highways and expressways. Not only this, up to 70 percent savings are also possible in it, which is not the case with regular Fastag.

Fastag Annual Pass will not work in these conditions

– The tag should be properly affixed to the windscreen, only then this pass will work properly. Loose or hand-held tags will not be valid. Such tags can also be blacklisted.

– The tag should be linked to the vehicle’s registration number (VRN). The pass will not be active if it is linked only to the chassis number.

– This pass is valid only for the vehicle on which the Fastag is installed and registered. It will be deactivated if it is used on any other vehicle. In such a situation, if you are not planning to buy a car this year or sell an old car, then taking an annual pass is a loss-making deal.

Know here how to get the annual pass of Fastag

You can get this pass from the Highway Travel App, it is for both Android and iOS users. You can also get it from the official website NHAI or MoRTH. For this, enter the vehicle and FASTag details, pay ₹ 3,000 and you will get the pass in two hours. You will get its information on the phone by message.

What will happen after the pass expires?
