Wife, son arrested for property dealer’s murder in Faridabad

Forty days after the murder of a property dealer, the police have recovered the body, and arrested the wife and son of the deceased for the crime in Greater Faridabad.

According to the police, the accused dumped the body in a deserted place after stuffing it in a sack. The wife misled family members, claiming that the victim had gone abroad. The deceased has been identified as Harveer Singh Malik, a resident of Terra Society in Sector 75 of Greater Faridabad. He went missing under suspicious circumstances on July 11.

According to a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, Kulveer, who lives in Ajronda village, Harveer lived in Terra Society with his wife, Sangeeta, and son, Sahil.

The couple reportedly fought frequently over financial woes. On July 10, they had a spat over money.

“My brother Harveer had kept Rs 7 lakh in the house for some work. His son and his wife spent the money. Harveer and his wife had a big fight over this. After the fight, Sangeeta and Sahil hatched a plan to kill Harveer. Sangeeta also included her sister in the plan. On the night of July 11, when Harveer was sleeping in his flat, Sangeeta and Sahil knocked on the door of his room. The door was not opened as Harveer was sleeping, after which the three entered his room through the window. After this, they struck him on the head with a heavy object, killing him,” Kulveer said in his complaint.

After killing Harveer and disposing of his body, Sangeeta came to her in-laws’ house in Ajronda the next day. When the relatives enquired about Harveer, she said he had gone abroad with his friends.

After staying at her in-laws’ place for 10 days, Sangeeta left. After this, whenever she was asked about Harveer by family members telephonically, she would make some excuse.

On August 14, Sangeeta messaged the family on WhatsApp from Harveer’s phone, claiming that he had had committed a “big mistake”, and he was leaving the city.

This made Kulveer suspicious, and he filed complaint at the BPTP police station.

When the police called Sangeeta and Sahil for questioning, their phones were found to be switched off.

This increased cops’ suspicion, and Sangeeta and Sahil were taken into custody on Wednesday night. “During interrogation, both of them confessed that they had thrown Harveer’s body in a deserted place in front of Sidhdata Ashram. The police reached the spot and recovered the body. We are questioning the accused, and investigating the role of Sangeeta’s sister, Jyoti,” said Inspector Arvind Kumar, the BPTP police station SHO.
