Breaking: Cloudburst Hits Chamoli’s Tharali in Uttarakhand, One Missing, Major Damage Reported | ABP NEWS
A devastating cloudburst struck Tharali in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district late at night, causing significant destruction and panic among residents. The incident occurred near the villages of Rani Bagar and Cheto around 1:00 AM. Heavy debris reached residential areas, damaging homes and burying several vehicles. One 20-year-old girl is feared trapped under the debris, and a 72-year-old man, Gangadhar Joshi, has been reported missing. The SDM’s residence was also heavily affected, with surrounding areas submerged in debris. Rescue operations are underway, but teams from SDRF and NDRF are facing difficulties reaching the site due to damaged and blocked roads. Continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours has further increased the water levels of nearby rivers, including Pindar and Pranmati, which are flowing above the danger mark. Authorities had issued an alert the previous day, and schools in the Tharali, Dewal, and Narayan Bagar blocks were closed as a precaution. However, the sudden nature of the cloudburst left little time for effective evacuation. Relief efforts are ongoing, and the district administration is assessing damage for compensation. The state disaster department is working to restore access and provide aid to affected families.
