'Any Engagement With Pakistan Would Be A Betrayal': Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi Writes To I&B Minister To Ban Telecast Of IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2025 Match
Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has revealed writing a letter to the Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to block the live streaming and telecast of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Pakistan. In a statement on X, Chaturvedi wrote they are outraged and that any engagement with Pakistan is not acceptable.
Amid heightened political tensions with Pakistan, the Sports Ministry has given green signal for India's upcoming Asia Cup 2025 against the Men in Green. The match, scheduled to take place on September 14 in Dubai, is all set to take place on the backdrop of a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir that resulted in the demise of at least 26 civilians. A military skirmish also followed before a ceasefire was announced.
Priyanka Chaturvedi took to X and wrote:
"India is outraged, Indians have stood with the government in its efforts via Operation Sindoor and PM’s clarion call of the Operation Sindoor being ongoing, any engagement with Pakistan would be a betrayal of this support. Hope to see you take India First stance and do what the nations expects from its government . Have written a letter to Minister I&B and IT to block live streaming and telecast of India Pak Match if it takes place."
Team India and Pakistan have announced their Asia Cup 2025 squads
As far as squad announcements go, India and Pakistan have announced their squads. Pakistan were the first to name it, doing so on August 17 and sprung a surprise by omitting Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan but including Shaheen Shah Afridi.
India, meanwhile, announced theirs on August 19 as chief of selectors Ajit Agarkar named a well-drilled 17-member squad. Shreyas Iyer was a notable name to miss out but the Men in Blue have plenty of match-winners in their ranks to lead a successful title defence.
India, the defending champions, had won the 50-over edition in 2023, beating Sri Lanka in the final.
