Delhi Heavy Rain Alert: Heavy rain predicted in Delhi today, Meteorological Department issued yellow alert
Delhi Weather News: The rain continues in Delhi. The Indian Meteorological Department has once again issued a yellow alert for rain on Sunday. Earlier on Saturday too, there was heavy rain in Delhi.
Delhi Heavy Rain Alert: Delhi received moderate to heavy rains on Saturday, leading to complaints of waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms on Sunday as well. The IMD has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms in many parts of the city and strong winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph.
According to IMD data, Delhi’s primary weather station Safdarjung recorded 24.8 mm of rain till 5.30 pm on Saturday, while Lodhi Road received 27 mm and Palam received 16.5 mm of rain.
People had to face waterlogging in many areas
The department said that due to the rain, people had to face waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas of North, Central, South and South-East Delhi.
According to Public Works Department (PWD) officials, their flood control room received at least 10 complaints of waterlogging during the day and most of them were resolved within an hour.
Meteorological Department issued warning for people
The IMD has issued a warning about traffic jams, slippery roads, possible damage to standing crops in gardens, horticulture and fields and partial damage to weak structures including minor damage to kutcha houses, walls and slums due to rain.
The department has advised people to follow traffic advisories, stay indoors as much as possible, keep windows and doors closed, avoid taking shelter under trees and stay away from water bodies and electrical installations. People have been urged not to touch electric wires, not to stand near poles and to take safe shelter immediately in case of heavy rain.
According to the department, the maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday was recorded at 34.5 degrees Celsius, which is 0.3 degrees below normal. He said that the minimum temperature in the city was 25.7 degrees Celsius, which is 0.8 degrees below normal.
Air quality index recorded at 93
According to the IMD, the relative humidity in Delhi was recorded at 76 per cent at 5.30 pm. According to the data of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city was recorded at 93 at 6 pm, which falls in the ‘satisfactory’ category.
According to the CPCB, AQI between zero to 50 is considered ‘good’, between 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, between 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, between 201 to 300 ‘poor’, between 301 to 400 ‘very poor’ and between 401 to 500 ‘severe’.
