Body building: Bronze for Balasore sexagenarian

Balasore: Proving age is just a number, Manoj Bihari Das, a 65-year-old man from Balasore, achieved an extraordinary feat by securing bronze medal at 57th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in the Masters’ Category held in Bangkok (Thailand) from August 22 to 24.
The championship witnessed the participation of a total of 18 athletes from across the Asian countries. The first position was secured by a contestant from Thailand and the second position was secured by an athlete from Kerala while Manoj clinched the third position.
To compete for the Asian championship, Manoj qualified the Mister India bodybuilding championship, securing third place. The championship was organised at Chhattisgarh in May this year.
Manoj, a retired government officer, dedicated his victory to his family and trainer for their guidance and support. He emphasised the need for discipline in life.
“My family and my coach selflessly supported me in this journey in every possible way. I worked for 6-7 hours daily to build my physique. Now, I have also been selected for Mister World Championship. However, I’m yet to decide whether I will participate or not. Hard work and dedication can make everything possible and the youth should also be passionate towards their health and fitness,” he said.
