AIIMS Jammu launches electric golf carts to boost green mobility, patient care

JAMMU, Sept 3: In a step towards sustainable healthcare and patient-friendly services, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu today inaugurated 10 eight-seater electric golf carts powered by lithium batteries. The initiative has been supported by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The facility was inaugurated jointly by Lt Gen (Dr) C S Narayanan, President, AIIMS Jammu; Deepak Bansal, Regional Chief, HUDCO; and Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu.
Prof Gupta, while extending gratitude to HUDCO, said the addition of electric carts would significantly ease mobility for patients, particularly the elderly, differently-abled, and those requiring assisted transport. He noted that the initiative reflects AIIMS Jammu’s larger commitment to eco-friendly practices and greener healthcare delivery.
Speaking on the occasion, Bansal underlined HUDCO’s commitment to supporting social and environmental causes. He lauded AIIMS Jammu for adopting sustainable transport solutions that merge patient welfare with environmental responsibility.
Lt Gen (Dr) Narayanan observed that such initiatives highlight how healthcare institutions can pioneer efforts that balance patient convenience with ecological responsibility.
The newly introduced service, named ‘Parikrama Sewa’, will provide free, safe and eco-friendly transportation across the AIIMS campus. Officials said the carts will ensure that patients, elderly visitors, attendants and differently-abled individuals can access various healthcare facilities with greater dignity, comfort and ease.
By adopting the electric mobility solution, AIIMS Jammu aims not only to improve patient convenience but also to set an example for other institutions in integrating sustainability into healthcare systems. The initiative, officials added, positions AIIMS Jammu as a national model for harmonizing quality medical care with environmental stewardship.
With this launch, AIIMS Jammu has further strengthened its reputation as an institution committed to holistic healthcare-where patient comfort and green practices go hand in hand.
