MP: Rape survivor assaulted again after child welfare panel sends her to alleged perpetrator’s home
A 15-year-old girl who was allegedly raped in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district was allegedly sent by the local Child Welfare Committee to the home of the alleged perpetrator, where she was assaulted by him a second time, The Indian Express reported on Thursday.
The man, Ram Prasad Kushwaha, was out on bail at the time.
The police have filed a first information report against Child Welfare Committee chief Bhanu Jaria, four committee members, Panna Women and Child Development officer Avadhesh Singh, counsellor Priyanka Singh and two more officials, The Hindu reported. The girl’s cousin has also been booked in the case.
One of the Child Welfare Committee members, Ashish Boss, has been arrested.
In January, the minor went missing after leaving for school, prompting her family to file a missing persons report, NDTV reported. Following this, she was traced and recovered from Haryana’s Gurugram on February 17 along with the alleged perpetrator.
He was arrested and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault.
However, the girl’s family refused to take her back, because of which she was placed at a One Stop Centre – a state-run shelter for women – from February to March, The Indian Express reported.
