New firm to run dry waste plant at Dadumajra soon

The Municipal Corporation has allotted the work to run a 200-tonne capacity dry waste plant at the Dadumajra facility to a Delhi-based company. The work has been allotted for a period of two years, with a provision for one-year extension based on the company’s performance.

Sources said the company had been selected out of a total of five firms. The MC had floated the tender two months ago. The new company will take over the entire processing work at the plant soon. The corporation has issued a letter of intent to the company and directed it to deposit a bank guarantee.

About 200-tonne dry waste is generated in the city every day, of which only 100-125 tonne is processed. The corporation had upgraded the dry waste plant three years ago at a cost of over Rs 4 crore. The old machines were upgraded as per new technology and one new one was installed. A special weighing area was also set up to maintain a record of waste collected daily.

The plant had not been running properly for a long time. At the previous MC General House meeting, councillors had raised concerns over the slow functioning of the Waste Processing Plant in Dadumajra. The Opposition had alleged mismanagement at the facility, flagging glaring lapses in its operations.

Meanwhile, the wet waste plant will be run by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). A proposal in this regard was passed by the MC House in its last meeting. As per the agenda, the IOCL will invest in both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) for the plant. This plant will be set up at the old dumping site in Dadumajra. Earlier, both plants were running from the same place.
