Youth injured in Badarpur firing accident, friend held

A 21-year-old youth sustained a gunshot wound in an alleged accidental firing in South-East Delhi’s Badarpur area early on Friday, the police said. The victim’s friend was handling the firearm when it went off, they added.

According to the police, the matter came to light after a PCR call was received from Apollo Hospital at around 5.26 am, reporting that a patient, Krish Sharma, a resident of Faridabad, had been admitted with a gunshot injury to his left foot. Sharma initially claimed the incident had taken place in Kalindi Kunj, but subsequent inquiry traced it to a rented flat in Thandan Mohalla, Badarpur.

Investigations revealed the shooting occurred between 1 am and 1.30 am on Friday, while Sharma was with his friend Shubham Sharma (22). Shubham had brought along a country-made pistol, which he was demonstrating when it accidentally discharged. The bullet struck Krish in the left foot, causing both entry and exit wounds, an officer said. Following the incident, Shubham, with the help of another acquaintance, rushed Krish to Apollo Hospital in a car, the officer added.

The police have recovered the country-made pistol along with one live round, as well as the vehicle used to transport the victim. An FIR under relevant sections has been registered at Badarpur police station and further investigation is underway.
