Apple touches annual sales of about USD9 billion in India, ramps up stores and iPhone production

NEW DELHI, Sept 6: US-based tech giant Apple has touched the annual sales mark of USD 9 billion in the last fiscal year, led by soaring iPhone demand, steady MacBook sales, and a retail strategy that is fast changing the way Indian consumers engage with the brand.
Apple is looking to leverage the immense sales potential in the Indian market as recently the company has opened its showrooms one in Bengaluru s bustling Hebbal and another in Pune s Koregaon Park.
Customers lined up early, some waving Apple merchandise, others recording their first steps inside the glass-fronted outlets.
Tim Cook himself posted on X, “Say hello to Apple Hebbal in Bengaluru and Apple Koregaon Park in Pune! We are thrilled to continue to bring the best of Apple to customers across India at these two stores.”
These Indian store launches are just before the Sep 9 event in Cupertino in which Apple is expected to launch iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE and Airpods Pro 3.
The timing of store launches shows that Apple wants to expand its presence in India besides just iPhone sales. CEO Cook himself sees India as a promising market for Apple s revenue expansion plans.
Each new store cements Apple s ambition to blend its global retail design with local Indian energy.
But Apple s India story is not just about glossy storefronts. Behind the scenes, the country has become a manufacturing powerhouse for the company.
Today, nearly one in every five iPhones sold worldwide is made in India.
This production push is also reshaping India s position on the global tech map. Suppliers are setting up ecosystems around Apple s assembly lines, new jobs are being created, and the country s stature in the supply chain is rising.
For Apple, India has turned from a peripheral market into a strategic hub. Even with premium pricing, demand has not slowed down. The iPhone 16 dominated the premium smartphone space in India underlining Apple s stronghold in the segment.
The growth numbers now put India as Apple s fourth-largest market globally, after the US, China and Japan.
What makes this rise remarkable is the way Indian consumers are embracing the brand. Whether it s students trading in older phones, professionals picking up MacBooks, or first-time buyers walking into Apple s new retail spaces, the Apple ecosystem is quietly but steadily spreading.
For Apple, India has become more than just a promising market. It s a place where growth, innovation, and manufacturing converge. (UNI)
