World’s largest residential building is home to 20000 people; has restaurants, grocery shops, gyms; its located in…
World’s largest residential building: India, due to its large population, is home to some of the biggest apartment buildings, especially in major urban centers like Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Mumbai, etc. But did you know that the world’s largest residential building in Hangzhou, China is home to over 20,000 people, and houses all amenities and facilities its residents would ever need, including grocery shops and restaurants.
Where is the world’s largest residential building?
The Regent International in Qianjiang Century City in Hangzhou, China, is the world’s largest residential building, housing more than 20,000 people. Apart from providing homes to its residents, the ‘building city’ has all the facilities for daily need, including a giant food court, grocery stores, barber shops, nail salons, gyms, cafes, swimming pools, and cafes.
Additionally, many of the building’s residents work in the various businesses housed inside this compact city and barely ever step outside, and thus the structure has been termed by many as a ‘self-contained community’. Most of the building’s occupants barely feel the need to step outside as all amenities are available inside the structure itself, including restaurants, food courts, and grocery shops for daily essentials.
Why was the Regent International built?
Originally built as a luxury hotel, the Regent International is a 675-foot S-shaped building in Hangzhou, China, housing high-end residential apartments spread across 39 floors. Home to over 20,000 occupants, the world’s biggest residential building is essentially a small-city in itself.
Notably, even with 20,000 residents, the building still has plenty of space as it is designed to accommodate over 30,000 people, so technically there’s still room left for around 10,000 people, although that would make the place overcrowded.
