Ukraine President Zelensky makes shocking statement on Trump’s tariff war against India for buying Russian oil, calls, ‘Right…’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed support for the US’s recent tariffs against countries like India, even as India has ramped up its diplomacy to help facilitate a peaceful resolution to the continuing war in Ukraine. India has been consistently calling for ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

What did Zelensky say about Trump’s tariff move on India?

During an interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated, “I think the idea to put tariffs on the country who are continuing to make deals with Russia is the right idea.” The Ukrainian President was asked about what he thought about Prime Minister Modi’s visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) summit, where he was seen with the top leaders of Russia and China.

Zelensky’s statement comes amid preparations by the Trump administration to broaden sanctions on Russia, following last month’s Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, which failed to achieve a diplomatic breakthrough.

According to the Hindustan Times report, US President Trump told reporters on Sunday that he was prepared to extend sanctions against Russia, while Kevin Hassett, Director of the National Economic Council, said new sanctions would be aimed at Moscow, citing India as a reference. Zelensky’s comments come against a backdrop of increased economic pressure on Russia.

US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he is ready to impose additional sanctions on Russia in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Russia launched its largest aerial assault of the Ukraine war overnight into Sunday, deploying more than 800 drones and striking a Kyiv government building for the first time, CNN reported. An infant was among at least two people killed during drone strikes on several residential buildings in the Ukraine capital, which was under an air-raid siren for 11 hours. Russia launched a total of 810 drones, four ballistic missiles and nine cruise missiles, the Ukrainian Air Force stated.

After Russia launched military strikes on Ukraine, Hassett stated, “At the National Economic Council, we are responsible for making sure that sanctions get enforced and that people who are helping Russia with their war against Ukraine – for example, what India has been doing by buying Russian oil – that we’re ready to respond to them economically.”

Hassett added, “I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of talk today and tomorrow about the level of sanctions and the timing of sanctions.”
