Airport New Rules: Now security checking will be done at the airport without taking out anything from the bag, see details

Imagine not having to pull out your laptop or throw away your water bottle when going through airport security. This is soon going to be a reality for travellers at Dubai International Airport (DXB).

Airport New Rules: “We have a phased plan, which will be completed by the end of 2026. During this time, the current hand baggage and hold baggage screening system will be replaced. After this, there will be no need for current rules, which require laptops and liquids to be taken out.

Eisa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice-President of Terminal Operations at Dubai Airports, said in an interview to a media channel that using new technology will make travel easier, faster and stress-free, as passengers will no longer have to take anything out of the bag. Dubai Airports is currently testing new scanners and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which will eliminate the need for passengers to remove laptops, perfumes, creams and liquids over 100ml during security checks.

In May 2025, Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects awarded Smiths Detection Company a contract to install advanced checkpoint screening technology at all three terminals of DXB. It aims to strengthen security, make operations more efficient and speed up passenger flow.

These advanced scanners provide high-resolution 3D imaging, allowing passengers to leave electronics and liquids in their bags. This will significantly reduce processing times and make travel more convenient. Now that passengers will not need to take out laptops and liquids larger than 100ml, Eisa Al Shamsi emphasised that “this change will make travel even easier and more convenient for passengers travelling through Dubai Airports.”

Passenger traffic at DXB continues to grow and repeatedly breaks records. To handle this growth, Dubai Airports is adopting new technologies and innovative solutions to ensure that passengers experience a fast, easy and seamless travel experience.

According to Dubai Airports, DXB handled 46 million passengers in the first half of 2025, an increase of 2.3% on the previous year. This was the busiest first half year in the airport’s history. The second quarter alone saw 22.5 million passengers, up 3.1% on the same period last year. April was the busiest month of the quarter, with 8 million passengers using the airport.

This increased traffic highlights the need for smarter and more efficient solutions to enable the airport to expand and handle future growth. The new screening technology is currently on trial at Terminal 3, which is used solely by Emirates Airlines.

Al Shamsi explained the scale of the project, saying it involves replacing around 140 handheld machines. “This is a huge task that will require changes to the infrastructure, so it will take time to complete.”

In addition, the Senior Vice-President of Terminal Operations noted that Dubai Airports is also working towards implementing AI-based systems to reduce aircraft turnaround times and further improve operational efficiency.
