Edwards Lifesciences launches India’s most advanced Transcatheter Heart Valve

New Delhi: Edwards Lifesciences, a global leader in structural heart innovations, has launched its next-generation transcatheter heart valve in India, offering a durable, minimally invasive solution for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are not candidates for open-heart surgery.
Aortic stenosis, a progressive narrowing of the aortic valve, can be fatal within two years of symptom onset without timely treatment. Edwards’ new balloon-expandable valve features calcification-resistant tissue, dry tissue storage for streamlined workflows, and an advanced sealing skirt to reduce leaks. Clinical data show lower mortality, fewer bleeding events, and rare need for reintervention compared to earlier valves.
The valve’s durability has been demonstrated with 99.3% freedom from structural valve deterioration at 7 years. Its “lifetime management” approach, including valve-in-valve procedures, helps avoid repeat open-heart surgeries in the future.
Indian cardiologists welcomed the launch, highlighting its safety, durability, and accessibility for younger patients. “We have waited a long time for this technology to reach India,” said Dr. A B Gopalamurugan of MGM Healthcare, Chennai.
Parameswaran Nair, Country Leader for India and Southeast Asia, Edwards Lifesciences, said: “This milestone reflects our commitment to expanding access to durable, minimally invasive therapies that improve survival and quality of life for Indian patients with aortic stenosis.”
