‘I will break your face…’: When Trump’s dinner party became a fighting ring for Finance Minister Scott Besant

At the dinner party of US President Donald Trump, two of his top economic officers came close to fighting.  This incident happened during the inauguration of an exclusive club “Executive Branch” in Washington DC and the birthday celebration of a podcast host Chamath Palihapitiya. The two officers of Trump who came close to fighting are Secretary of Finance i.e. US Finance Minister Scott Bessant and Director of Federal Housing Finance Agency Bill Pulte.

According to reports, Scott Bessant threatened to punch Pulte in the face during a dinner at the Executive Club. Bessant found out that Bill Pulte was gossiping about him to Trump, sources said. Upon learning of this, Scott Besant lost his temper and threatened to punch Bill Pulte in the face.

This incident took place during a private dinner in Washington DC on September 4, 2025. Many big names were present at this dinner like Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard.A long table was set for about 30 guests, adorned with high-end crystal and porcelain.But amid the noise of the cocktail party, Besant made a scathing remark full of abuses on Pulte. Actually, the news is that Scott Besant had heard from several people that the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency was badmouthing him in front of Trump.

“Why are you talking to the president about me? F*** off ,” Besant said to Pulte at the first opportunity. “I’ll punch you in the face.”

According to eyewitnesses, after this tense encounter, the club’s co-owner and financier Omid Malik had to intervene. But Besant was not okay with this. Besant said to the club owner, “Either he will stay here or I will. You tell me who will leave from here.” “Or,” he added, “we could go out.”
“To do what?” Pulte asked.
“To talk?””No,” Besant replied.

To defuse the situation, Malik separated the men and took Besant to another part of the club to calm her down. During dinner, Besant and Pulte were seated at opposite ends of the table.Besant, Pulte, Malik and White House have declined to comment on the incident.

Trump hoped all three would work together

Trump announced in May that Bessant, Commerce Secretary Lutnick and Pulte would work together. But according to sources in the Trump administration, a kind of ground war has been going on between these officials. Some people familiar with the dispute say that Bessant believes that Pulte has involved himself in matters that the Treasury Secretary considers his jurisdiction.

This isn’t the first time Bessant has had a falling out with a Trump adviser. Earlier this year, multiple sources said that Bessant had a heated argument with Elon Musk.
