iPhone 17 launch: When and where to watch 'Awe Dropping' event?

Apple Awe Dropping event

Apple announced on August 27 that it would be holding a launch event for the iPhone 17 lineup on September 9.

Called "Awe Dropping", the event is one of the biggest tech launches of the year, that also sees the release of several new-generation Apple products, including the Apple Watch and the AirPods.

Hosted at Apple Park’s Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino, California, the annual event will be livestreamed at 10 AM PT (10:30 PM IST) on Apple's official website (Apple.com), Apple TV+, and Apple official YouTube channel.

What to expect

iPhone 17 series

The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to be the highlight of the event, despite the smartphone maker choosing to stick to their core playbook this time round.

Powered by the A19 Pro chip—built on a 3nm process node—Apple promises faster performance, AI-driven optimisations, and better battery efficiency for the iPhone 17 family. The base model is expected to cost roughly Rs 80,000.

Apple is also said to be working on an updated 24 MP front-facing camera with a six-element lens for its models.

In addition, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could include an upgraded 48 MP Telephoto camera, while the iPhone 17 Air (said to be the slimmest iPhone ever) is expected to get a single-lens 48 MP rear camera.

While the iPhone 17 Pro may bring a horizontal camera bar across the rear and shift from titanium to lighter aluminium, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could see a slightly thicker body to support a larger battery, a Mint report said.

Accessories

According to tipster Majin Bu, Apple may also introduce the TechWoven phone cases for the iPhone 17 lineup, following the failure of the FineWoven cases. A fresh range of Apple Watch bands are also expected.

Wearables

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the most anticipated out of the three smartwatch releases expected today. Rumours say it will get a bigger screen and satellite connectivity.

While the Series 11 is expected to make small changes from the Series 10, the Apple Watch SE is expected to get a major processor upgrade.

 AirPods Pro 3

The AirPods Pro 3 is expected to receive a host of new upgrades, from a faster H3 chip and live translation, to health features and a smaller charging case.

HomePod Mini (2nd gen.)

The HomePod Mini, which may get a place at tonight's event, may have an updated S9 (or newer) chip, in addition to improved sound quality.
