Fire breaks out at shopping complex in Ambala

A massive fire broke out at the Vishal Mega Mart in Ambala City on Tuesday, however, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

The fire was reported in the middle floor of the mart and soon after getting information fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was controlled. The reason behind the incident was yet to be ascertained.

Nearly 11 fire tenders from Ambala City, Ambala Cantonment and Naraingarh were pressed in to service to completely douse the flames. Due to the heavy smoke, the fire fighters and the volunteers of different social and religious organisations had a tough time. Products worth lakhs of rupees were gutted. District Fire Officer Trasem Rana, said, “Around 9.15 am we received information regarding the fire at Vishal Mega Mart and soon after getting the information, one fire tender was rushed to the spot. However, soon after, more fire tenders were pressed into service from Ambala City, Ambala Cantonment, and Naraingarh as the fire was spreading. The fire was in the middle floor of the mart, and due to heavy smoke, the firefighters had a tough time. The fire was completely doused, and there was no casualty or injury in the incident.”

About the cause of fire, the fire officer said the mart was closed and sparking was suspected to be the reason behind the fire. However, the exact reason of fire and loss are yet to be ascertained. The heat and smoke have affected the upper floor as well, however, the fire was effectively controlled from spreading to other areas. Assistant Sub-Inspector of Ambala Police Anil Kumar, managed to reach the top of the burning building and safely brought down the National Flag, which was installed on the top of the building.
