Gaganjeet, Aadil, Neha to play golf league opener

The stage is all set for the inaugural Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) at the Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC) tomorrow.

The event will be a mix of young and experienced golfers playing under a new format, consisting of men and women professional golfers and top amateurs.

Former Indian star cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who has been appointed as the league’s brand ambassador, will also be part of the league.

Leading the star parade will be Gaganjeet Bhullar, who has 11 wins in the events across the region. “I would like to thank everyone present here for supporting the IGPL. We had been brainstorming for long on what kind of format will bring a much-needed buzz to the Indian golf,” said Bhullar.

Aadil Bedi, a local star with a good record in and outside India, said, “It’s been my home club for many years. I have seen many tournaments, but the buzz for the IGPL is more than any other event.” He announced that he would donate 100% of his winning amount to provide relief to Punjab flood victims.

Neha Tripathi, an experienced star from the IGPL partner Women’s Golf Association of India, said the new format would be challenging and exciting to compete.

CGC captain Mohan Bir Singh said despite heavy rains recently, the course was ready to host the event. Club president Ravibir Singh added that the CGC had a rich history of producing famous golfers.
