Udit Narayan made his acting debut in the mid-80s in the Nepali film Kusume Rumal in 1985. This film turned into a classic and gave him his first taste of stardom in Nepal. He acted with famous personalities like Bhuwan KC and Tripti Nadkar in the film, and also sang four out of its six songs himself. The film went on to become a massive success, running in theaters for as long as 25 weeks. For years, Kusume Rumal held the record as the highest-grossing Nepali film until it was surpassed 16 years later, in 2001, by Tulsi Ghimire’s Darpan Chhaya. This success earned Udit Narayan the status of Nepal’s “superstar”.
