Days after youth’s murder in Beas area, one nabbed

Five days after a youth was found shot dead in the Beas area, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested a man and nominated three others in the case.

The deceased was identified as Satnam Singh, a resident of Ucha village falling under the Patara police station in Jalandhar. At present, he was residing at Molahwahdpur under the Garhshankar police station in Hoshiarpur.

Sharing details, Amritsar (Rural) SSP Maninder Singh said the arrested accused was identified as Balwinder Singh, alias Prince, a resident of Mahalo village in Nawanshahr. The police have also recovered a Hyundai Creta car (PB-32-AC-4879), which was used in the crime.

On October 4, an unidentified male body was recovered from the premises of Government School, Beas. The deceased had distinctive tattoos on his arms — “Baaz” and “Goppy” on one side and “Happy” on the other. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was killed due to gunshot injuries inflicted by unknown assailants.

The police had registered a case under Section 103 of the BNS and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Beas police station.

Through technical investigation, the deceased was later identified as Satnam Singh of Ucha village in Jalandhar while he was residing at Molahwahdpur in Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur district.

During the probe, the vehicle used in the crime — a Creta (PB-32-AC-4879) — was traced.

“The investigation led to the nomination of the following accused persons in the case. They were identified as Ishwinder Kaul, alias Ishu Baba of Ucha village, Aman of Jethpur in Jalandhar and Sukhwinder Singh alias Rangi of Mahalo in Nawanshahr.

The SSP said that an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the murder and to apprehend the remaining accused who are currently absconding. An initial probe had suggested a possible monetary dispute. The SSP said the investigation is in its initial stages and that everything will become clear once all the suspects are arrested.

Balwinder Singh was produced in court and taken into police remand for further investigation.
